Possible, yes. Practical, no way. Air time here, whether it be short-band radios or cellular etc., is not cheap. The radio net we use at work is good for about 3 miles line-of-sight (but just barely). The problem with net-type communications (again, radio or cellular) in addition to the cost, local topography, climate and vegetation really impede transmissions. CB would be the best route, if everyone had a set. Even a 3-channel hand-held mobile CB system is going to run about $40 per unit. Distance on a hand-held mobile if you want good reception is about 500 yards. They don't have the power to send or receive over distances much greater, and they don't work very well with helmets or the typical motorcycle event background noise. UHF/VHF would be the best bet but you're talking several hundred US dollars. If your concern is on-site, Lisa or I will likely be fairly easy to find. If your concern is on the road, one of us will lead the group and one will bring up the rear. Our on-road signal system will be explained before the group ride. See you at the rally.
